Coaching

Karl Beck began coaching both the Masters and Open men at Riverside in 2008. He has also coached
for Wayland-Weston, where he developed several gold medal crews. Highlights of his rowing career include
a gold medal in the Intermediate 4+ at the 2003 U.S. National Championships, second place in the Senior 4-
at the 2003 Royal Canadian Henley Regatta, and second in the Club Eights in the 2006 Head of the
Charles.
2010 Regatta Schedule

Our top priorities for 2010 are FISA
Masters Worlds in St. Catherine’s, Ontario,
and the Head of the Charles. We have an
active schedule of racing that allows team
members at all levels to participate.Elite
members of the team often join other clubs to
race composite at some regattas.
Practice Schedule
Coached practice is MWF from 5:30-7:00 a.m. plus Saturday 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. The training
program includes erg workouts, weights, and additional rowing other days of the week. The season
runs from the end of March through October, though we are on the water later in the fall until the river
freezes. We are a competitive group that enjoys rowing and racing but we also recognize the
importance of rowing-life balance. Members typically row together at least 2-3 times per week with
some significantly more.
The Program
The team consists of a core of 12-15 rowers plus a few dedicated
coxswains. We race eights, fours, and pairs. Many of us also race as
scullers, and some of the Club’s top scullers join us for sweep events.
Ranging in age from 23 to 72, we can put together competitive boats in
almost any age category and class of boats.
