Phil Grisdela
I’m from Great Falls Virginia, born in Washington
DC May 23, 1990. I went to Thomas Jefferson High
School for Science and Technology, where I began
rowing in the spring of 2005 and was commodore
my junior year and a captain of the team my
senior year.I am a rising senior at Dartmouth
College, and am pursuing a double major in
History and Biology. While rowing at Dartmouth I
was on the freshman 8 and the varsity for the past
two years under Dan Roock, and am commodore
of the team this upcoming year. After I graduate I
hope to go to medical school and continue to row
at the elite level. Aside from rowing I love the
outdoors, cycling and doing triathlons. Interesting
fact is that I have been to 47 of the US National
Parks.
Phil Henson
Phil Henson started rowing in 2004 at the Hun
School of Princeton in New Jersey. He went on
to Dartmouth College and graduated in June
2011 with an A.B. degree in Biomedical
Engineering, with plans to achieve his B.E.
degree in 2012. Phil was a 3-year varsity
oarsman at Dartmouth and thanks his
teammates and coaches for making the
Dartmouth lightweight crew team one of the
most rewarding experiences of his life. His
future goals include continuing to pursue an elite
level of rowing and doing engineering research.
Coach, Bob Gillette
Bob Gillette's elite coaching career goes back to
the 1980s. As head men's coach at the Pioneer
Valley Rowing Association, he coached Brian
Sweenor to three national team appearances in
the lightweight single, including a bronze medal
at the 1992 world championships. He has also
coached future Olympians Jason Gailes and
Julia Chilicki, as well as other national team
athletes.Bob also has significant collegiate
coaching experience, which no doubt is handy
helping younger HPG athletes make the
transition from collegiate to elite rowing.Bob
has coached at the University of Rhode Island,
Connecticut College and the PVRA. At Rhode
Island, Bob won the lightweight eight at the Dad
Vails, and coached multiple crews to podium
finishes. At Connecticut College, he won the
lightweight men's four at the Dad Vails, and
collected several other podium finishes as well.
In his short tenure at Riverside, he coached Kyle
Lafferty and Greg McKallagat to a 4th place
finish at NSRII and an automatic invitation to the
lighweight four selection camp, as well as
coaching Phil Henson and Phil Grisdela to a win
at the U23 World Championship trials, in the
lightweight men's pair.
